The monument was established thanks to the initiative of a dedicated group of residents from Oosterhout, namely:

- Frans Spaan (veteran, Historical Circle Oosterhout)
- Nico van Kleef (amateur WWII analyst and monument designer)
- Paul Janssen (resident of the John R. Towlestraat)
